Our goal is to raise $25,000 to buy 2,500 pairs of shoes for orphans in Congo. Just $10 will buy a brand new pair of shoes for a child in Congo.
In the U.S. having shoes is pretty much a given. This is not the case for kids in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Most children wear flip flops that are often broken and sewn back together. Sometimes the soles are totally worn down and are too big or too small. But kids wear what they have, and shoes don't get thrown away until there is nothing left.
Since they often walk 8-10 miles a day, having good shoes is critcally important. Walking is a child's means of transportation - there are no cars. School is 1/2 to 3 miles away. The market is 1-2 miles away. Children are sent everywhere with messages and deliveries. They walk to church. They walk to the water source to fetch water and carry the bucket back on their heads. They walk to the forest to find fire wood.
